The City of Leipzig with
the City of Travnik (Bosnia and Herzegovina)

The partnership between Leipzig and Travnik in Bosnia and Herzegovina, initiated by Travnik in 1997 shortly after the end of the Yugoslavian wars, has lasted for more than 20 years and has always been shaped and supported by the commitment of citizens in both cities. The involvement of many stakeholders as well as annual exchange trips with representatives from a broad range of sectors have contributed to this dynamic partnership, which was formalized in 2003.

The diverse range of measures undertaken include projects in the fields of sustainable and participatory urban development planning, sustainable mobility and education for sustainable development, as well as responsible economic management. The idea of transformation has always played a key role, as have the pillars of the partnership itself: cooperation on equal terms, projects of mutual benefit, the tolerance and promotion of ethnic and cultural diversity and peaceful coexistence.

On 14 November 2018, the jury of the German Sustainability Award will select the top 3 entries and the winner.
