The list of nominees for the International German Sustainability Award includes eight collaborations between a company based in Germany and a partner in the Global South. These corporate partnerships were able to assert themselves among all participants and convinced the assessment partners.
Limbua Group Ltd / Limbua GmbH (Naturamus GmbH)
The long-standing partnership between naturamus and LIMBUA combines sustainable sourcing with the strengthening of local value creation in Kenya. By gaining access to demanding markets, LIMBUA has developed into an independent supplier of organic products. The partnership focuses on high-quality standards, transparent supply chains, and the continuous improvement of environmental and social impacts for communities in the Embu region around Mount Kenya.

Rikolto & BENEO: Sustainable Rice Cultivation in Vietnam
BENEO is working with Rikolto and CarbonFarm on a three-year project to promote climate-resilient and more sustainable rice cultivation in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta. At least 1,000 farmers will be trained in farming methods aligned with the Sustainable Rice Platform (SRP) Standard. Digital monitoring tools and guaranteed market access aim to reduce methane emissions, strengthen farmers’ livelihoods, and promote sustainable rice supply chains for food and animal feed ingredients.

Marula Proteen Ltd. / Grainpulse Limited
The partnership between K+S, Marula Proteen Ltd and Grainpulse promotes more sustainable agriculture in Uganda. Together, the partners are developing a locally produced organo-mineral fertilizer combining recycled organic waste with mineral components. The solution reduces waste and CO₂ emissions, improves soil fertility and gives farmers access to affordable fertilizers that can increase yields while supporting economically viable and sustainable farming.

DEKRA Climate Impact Program
The partnership between DEKRA and UNICEF is part of the DEKRA Climate Impact Program and aims to strengthen the climate resilience of vulnerable communities. It focuses on climate-resilient water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) measures in Ethiopia and India. By 2030, around 860,000 children and their families are expected to gain access to clean drinking water. DEKRA provides funding and supports advocacy activities, while UNICEF leads local implementation and impact measurement.

West African eUniversity Project
The cooperation between West Africa e-Academy Project Limited (WAEAC) in Nigeria and WAeUP Germany aims to make higher education processes more efficient through digital solutions. At its core stands Kofa, a multifunctional student management system and web portal. WAEAC contributes education-sector experience and operational support, while WAeUP Germany provides software development and technical expertise. Together, they improve administration, IT adoption and academic processes.

Midsona & Ibis Rice
The Ibis Rice Program combines the protection of endangered species and valuable natural habitats with the sustainable development of smallholder farming communities in Cambodia. More than 2,700 farmers commit to organic farming without deforestation, poaching or chemical fertilizers. Through Wildlife Friendly and Fair for Life certifications, the program creates sustainable income opportunities. All revenues are reinvested in the project’s development and long-term conservation.

STOP BURNING COCOHUSK (Coconut Nexus & Kokos 360)
The partnership between GlobalBusinessflow and the Indonesian foundation Roemah Kelapa Indonesia (RoeKI) promotes a sustainable coconut value chain in Indonesia. The project focuses on circular economy, biodiversity and empowering smallholder farmers. RoeKI connects the project with local producers and research networks, while GlobalBusinessflow supports international scaling, marketing and access to European markets.

followfood and Horizon Fisheries
The partnership between followfood and Horizon Fisheries has strengthened traditional pole-and-line tuna fishing in the Maldives since 2014. Together, the partners have improved supply chains, quality standards and local processing while enabling investment in regional value creation. Predictable purchase volumes provide economic security. A key milestone was the 2017 launch of the world’s first seafood product certified by both MSC and Fair Trade USA.
