During the economic and financial crisis of the first decade of the millennium, Stefan Schulze-Hausmann had the idea of recognising and celebrating good examples of sustainability. This was something new and unusual - and it had a lot of promise.

The passing of ten years (of the German Sustainability Award) is an appropriate time to reflect on what the award has archieved other than a great deal of work, in-depth discussions and many enjoyable celebrations.
