Each participation in the competition leads to an intensive examination of one's own contributions to development cooperation, which can already be a gain in knowledge. Each participating partnership has the chance of being nominated and the chance of winning.
The winners receive a prize money of €60,000, which is shared by the two partner municipalities. The prize money will be used for local development policy and the 2030 Agenda issues in the two partner municipalities.
The winners will receive communication materials to publicize their success. They will be intensively involved in the reporting of the German Sustainability Award Foundation and its cooperation and media partners. The winners in particular are usually widely reported in the media. In addition, the winning municipalities will be offered consultation on how to make the partnership work more climate-friendly by the Allianz für Entwicklung und Klima (Alliance for Development and Climate).
A ranking will not be published, only the nominees, finalists and winners will be announced.
